چکیده

Introduction Over the past couple of years, high field imaging is slowly expanding from the head to extremities and the body. A target of particular interest is the prostate, because of the high incidence of prostate cancer and the expected increase in diagnostic capabilities. One of the problems in imaging the prostate is the limited penetration depth of the RF signal, resulting in high power demand and subsequently high SAR deposition. Several concepts for RF coil designs have been proposed and realized. In this study, we evaluate two designs with the most potential: an 8-element stripline array and an endorectal coil. After simulating the SAR levels of both coils, we compare the suitability of both coils for three MR scanning sequences that are commonly used for prostate cancer diagnostics: A T1w FFE sequence, a T2w TSE sequence and a spectroscopy exam.

Three Dimensional Spectroscopic Imaging in the Prostate with a Surface Combined Endorectal Coil at 7 Tesla

INTRODUCTION: The benefits of performing prostate spectroscopy at 7T include increased spectral and spatial resolution. The potential exists to be able to better quantify individual metabolites, localize smaller volumes of disease and better monitor disease progression or treatment response. However, spectroscopy in the body at 7T faces many challenges including the well described destructive i...

Comparison of Pelvic Phased-Array versus Endorectal Coil Magnetic Resonance Imaging at 3 Tesla for Local Staging of Prostate Cancer

PURPOSE Several studies have demonstrated the superiority of endorectal coil magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) over pelvic phased-array coil MRI at 1.5 Tesla for local staging of prostate cancer. However, few have studied which evaluation is more accurate at 3 Tesla MRI. In this study, we compared the accuracy of local staging of prostate cancer using pelvic phased-array coil or endorectal coil ...

Investigation of Element Designs and Construction of a Reconfigurable 8 Channel Tx, 16 Channel Rx Torso Array for 7T

Introduction: Improved signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) has led the drive for high magnetic field scanners. While substantial progress has been made toward exploiting high field benefits for head imaging, high field torso imaging has been hindered by non-uniform B1+ distribution and inadequate B1+ in the center of the torso. Stripline coils have become the preferred method for RF excitation at 7T du...

Development and evaluation of a multichannel endorectal RF coil for prostate MRI at 7T in combination with an external surface array.

PURPOSE To develop and evaluate a sterilizable multichannel endorectal coil (ERC) for use in combination with an external surface array (ESA) for high-resolution anatomical and functional studies of the prostate at 7T. MATERIALS AND METHODS A two-loop ERC (ERC-2L) and a microstrip-loop ERC (ERC-ML) were compared at 7T in terms of transmit and receive performance. The best-performing ERC was e...

Proton and sodium MR imaging of in vivo human prostate using dual-tuned body and endorectal coils at 7T

[Introduction] Prostate cancer is the most frequently diagnosed male malignancy and the second most common cause of cancer death among men in the United States [1]. Prostate cancer typically appears as a low intensity mass against the bright peripheral zone on T2-weighted MR images. Despite its high sensitivity, T2-weighted MR imaging lacks adequate specificity for prostate cancer detection. In...
